Georgetown, Texas – Rodolfo (Rudy) Delgado, a veteran and beloved family man, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and resilience. He was born on December 9, 1929, in Brawley, California, and was the oldest of three siblings in a family rooted in hard work and education.

Rudy was raised in Calexico, California, as the son of Rodolfo Delgado, a mechanic and shop owner, and Josefina Lopez, a teacher. His commitment to education paved the way for him to become the first in his family to attend college, graduating from UCLA in 1951 with a degree in business administration. Following graduation, Rudy enlisted in the Navy in 1952, where he served as a Lieutenant, Junior Grade during the Korean War aboard the USS Wedderburn. His commendable service earned him multiple accolades, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. Rudy was released from active duty in 1956 and remained in the reserves until his honorable discharge in 1961.

In 1964, Rudy met Julieta (Julie) Aguilera at a family gathering, and after a charming courtship, the couple married in Mexicali, Baja California, in 1967. The couple celebrated more than 57 years of marriage and raised two sons, Esteban and Efren. Their family journey began in Newton, Kansas, where Rudy embarked on a career in farm equipment sales and international trade, which allowed him to travel extensively, particularly in South America. In 1974, they relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, where their second son was born. Esteban and Efren went on to graduate from The University of Texas at Austin, solidifying the family’s commitment to higher education.

In 2007, Rudy and Julie made a significant move to the Del Webb community in Georgetown, excited to embrace a new chapter in their lives. Living there, they engaged in various activities, including card games and local dances, where Rudy’s passion for golf continued until a knee replacement in 2018 sidelined his tennis playing. Tragically, Rudy faced a severe setback in November when he suffered a fall that led to a broken femur. Despite this and a heart attack in July, which showcased his fighting spirit, Rudy passed away peacefully, with his family believing he is now in a better place.

Rudy is remembered fondly for his kindness, humor, and youthful spirit. He cherished moments with his family, particularly enjoying card games and his favorite Mexican Martinis. He is survived by his wife, Julie; sons Esteban and Tiana Delgado of Dallas, Texas, and Efren and Anzhela Delgado of Lake Forest, California; three grandchildren; and his sister Josefina Story of Sacramento, California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Ascension Seton Williamson Foundation in Round Rock, Texas, to honor Rudy’s legacy of service and love.
