Brenham, Texas – Gladys Marlene McBride Davis, a beloved teacher and long-time resident of Brenham, passed away on September 14, 2025, at the age of 94. She succumbed to health complications at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Brenham.

Born on August 2, 1931, in Cuero, Dewitt County, Texas, she was the daughter of Willie Ira and Celesta Texana (Lands) McBride. She committed her life to the Lord, Jesus Christ, at the young age of sixteen during a sermon given by Dr. Ben David, which highlighted her commitment to her faith throughout her life.

Gladys graduated from Cuero High School before attending Blinn College and later Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. On August 29, 1950, she married Duane Newton Davis at the First Baptist Church in Brenham, sharing a life filled with love and family.

A member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Brenham, Gladys was known for her dedication to education. She worked as an elementary teacher, teaching second grade at Alton Elementary for many years before retiring in the 1990s. Her influence on her students left a lasting legacy in the Brenham community.

Outside of her professional life, she had a rich personal life that included hobbies such as sewing, cooking, bird watching, and gardening. Her family remembers her fondly, as she is survived by her two sons, Michael Owen and his wife Mary Davis of Burnet, and Calvin Joel Davis of Brenham. Additionally, she leaves behind a daughter, Sharon Richmond of College Station, Texas, five grandchildren: Carrie Richmond, Anne Richmond, Leah Winn, Peggy (Brian) Wells, and Thomas Evans, as well as numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

Gladys is also survived by her brother Carlton Wayne McBride and brother-in-law Keith Davis (Rosalie). She was preceded in death by her husband Duane, her parents, and several siblings, including sisters Florence and Celesta, and brothers Jackie, Teddy, Jerry, and Carlton McBride. She was also preceded in death by sister-in-law Deloris Hill and brothers-in-law Rex, Bruce, and Terry Davis, alongside her son-in-law Greg Richmond.

Funeral services for Gladys Davis are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Fellowship Baptist Church, located at 2000 FM 389, Brenham, Texas. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The pallbearers will include Thomas Evans, Tyler Miller, John Wells, Samuel Wells, William Wells, and Patrick Winn.
