Barbara is survived by her husband of 62 years, Victor W. Mokry, her son Bryan Mokry and his wife Carrie from Newport News, Virginia, and four grandsons: Hunter Schumann of Georgetown, Leighton Schumann, his fiancée Cynthia Geer, and her son Randy Geer of Austin, Parker and Travis Mokry of Newport News. She also had a great-grandson, Thaddeus Schumann of Spokane, Washington. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Florence Ortbal Bryant, her daughter, Cynthia Mokry Schumann, and her grandson, Dylan Schumann.

Community Involvement

A devoted member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church, Barbara played a significant role in church activities. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and Coordinator, a Daily Sacristan, and contributed 25 years of her time teaching Religious Education. Barbara was also involved in the Bereavement committee and was a respected member of the Perpetual Adoration Society.

Barbara’s commitment to helping others extended beyond the church. As a young mother, she was actively involved in scouting, serving as a Brownie and Cub Scout leader. In her later years, she took on the role of treasurer for her grandsons’ Boy Scout troop in Georgetown.

Throughout her life, Barbara and Victor traveled extensively, visiting over 61 countries across Europe, Africa, and South America, as well as all 50 states in the United States. Barbara’s adventurous spirit was only matched by her academic ambitions; she attended the Ursuline Academy in Laredo, Texas, where she made her mark by winning 1st place for a female entry at a city-wide science fair. Her science fair project also won an award for best entry in the medical field at the regional level in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Barbara earned her BS degree in Medical Technology from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Her career highlights include significant positions at Austin State Hospital, Seton Hospital in Austin, DeTar Hospital, and as a lab supervisor and consultant for the Victoria Women’s Clinic Lab in Victoria, Texas.

Visitation for Barbara will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home, located at 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas, with a rosary service at 7:00 PM. The funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2700 E University Avenue, Georgetown, Texas, followed by a luncheon from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM.
