Their adventurous spirit, however, never dulled; they returned to Austin, where Marjorie began teaching preschool at St. Andrews and became active in the First Methodist Church community.
Family Bonds and Traditions
The family’s love for one another was evident, especially during the annual family reunions at Valentine Lodge on Lake LBJ. For over 50 years, the Allens gathered family members from across the country, including Canada, Tennessee, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas, making cherished memories together.

In 1972, Marjorie and Bob moved to Cedar Park, where she became involved with the Pond Springs Baptist Church and continued to teach kindergarten at Briar Patch Children’s Center. After Bob retired, they settled in Georgetown, where she taught at Rabbit Hill Children’s Center and remained actively engaged in church activities, contributing to literacy classes and the children’s music ministry.
Forever in Our Hearts
Marjorie’s later years were filled with love and support from her neighbors and her devoted caregiver, Luci Wharton. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob Allen, her eldest son David, her parents George and Bessie Dorroh, her brother George Dorroh, and her sister Bonnie Hoge. She leaves behind her daughter Jean Solana (husband Pete), their children Peter (wife Silvia) and Christine (husband Brent Walrath), along with four great-grandchildren; and son George, who has grandchildren Emily Fox (husband Randy) and Drew Allen, along with two great-grandchildren, Knox and River Fox.
Community Farewell
An open visitation for Marjorie will be held on March 1st from 10-11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Georgetown, Texas, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. After the service, Marjorie will be laid to rest at IOOF Cemetery in Hamilton, Texas, following a family luncheon.
