McDonald's Hiring Initiative

News Summary

McDonald’s is set to hire up to 375,000 employees across the United States as part of a major expansion plan, including the opening of 900 new locations by 2027. This initiative aims to create numerous job opportunities while also emphasizing the professional development of its workers. The announcement aligns with the 10th anniversary of the Archways to Opportunity program, which has benefited over 90,000 employees. Meanwhile, Stagg Restaurants in Texas is enhancing employee benefits, including on-demand pay and comprehensive rewards packages, creating an attractive work environment. New McDonald’s locations are also planned in Katy.

Delaware, Ohio – On May 12, 2025, McDonald’s announced a significant hiring initiative aimed at recruiting up to 375,000 employees across the United States. The announcement was made during a press conference held by U.S. President Joe Erlinger at a McDonald’s restaurant in Delaware, Ohio. This initiative marks one of the largest hiring efforts by the fast-food giant in years, coinciding with plans to open 900 new locations nationwide by 2027.

The initiative highlights McDonald’s commitment to professional growth and career opportunities for employees. Erlinger noted that wearing a uniform and working on the front lines offers a unique level of professionalism that can be valuable for those entering the workforce. Complementing this announcement, U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer attended the event and pointed out the positive economic impacts that McDonald’s expansion could have on workers and their communities.

The expansion is anticipated to drive investment in various areas while also setting growth standards for the fast-food industry. The announcement coincides with the 10th anniversary of McDonald’s Archways to Opportunity program, an initiative that has provided educational resources to over 90,000 employees. This program includes various offerings such as tuition assistance and English language courses to help employees develop their skills further.

Stagg Restaurants, a Texas-based franchisee of McDonald’s, is also stepping up its hiring efforts as it expands its operations. Stagg Restaurants, which manages 36 McDonald’s locations, has partnered with DailyPay to provide employees with on-demand access to their earned wages. Research indicates that 56% of quick-service restaurant employees value more frequent pay, while nearly 49% say that having early access to their pay significantly improves their perception of their employer.

Stagg Restaurants offers a competitive rewards package to attract and retain employees. This package includes generous time off, medical insurance, bonuses, free meals, uniforms, and access to educational opportunities. The franchisee is also undergoing a phase of remodeling and the opening of new locations, further enhancing its rehiring and hiring initiatives.

McDonald’s is also set to expand in Katy, Texas, where three new locations are planned, including one on Morton Road near Katy Park. This new Morton Road site will introduce McDelivery, enabling customers to order via a mobile app and have their food delivered by Uber Eats. Construction for additional McDonald’s locations in Katy is scheduled to commence in 2025 and 2026, contributing further to local employment opportunities.

However, the announcement of McDonald’s expansion comes alongside a backdrop of challenges. Several McDonald’s franchises have reportedly faced penalties for violations of child labor laws. These violations included employing minors in hazardous work environments and permitting longer shifts than what is federally allowed. As a response, franchise owners are implementing more robust training and audits to ensure compliance with labor regulations moving forward.

This ambitious hiring initiative and expansion expound on McDonald’s strategy to not only grow its presence in the fast-food sector but also to enhance job offerings and career development for its employees, ensuring that they can thrive within the organization.
