Among the newly opened establishments is Sami Sumeli, a Georgian restaurant located in Cedar Park, which brings a rich assortment of Eastern European dishes to the area. Notable items on the menu include kharcho beef stew, grilled lamb skewers, and mini honey cake dumplings. This addition aims to provide a taste of Georgia’s culinary traditions to local diners.

Another exciting entry is Soul Seoul Sol, a food trailer fusing Mexican and Korean cuisines. Located near Webberville Road, it offers unique dishes like short rib bibimbap, a flavorful fried chicken sandwich, and Seoul hamburgers, catering to those seeking innovative flavor combinations.

In South Austin, One Bite Dumpling has opened its doors, specializing in soup dumplings, potstickers, and various Asian comfort foods. This addition aims to fill a niche for local dim sum enthusiasts.

On Elmo Road and South Congress, fans of East Coast deli-style food can find Knuckle Sandwich, a food truck that serves up creations like the Not Boring Turkey Sammie, lamb sandwiches, and a vegetarian mushroom Reuben. This new venue enhances the diverse food truck options available in the city.

Just recently, Anacacho Coffee and Cantina in San Antonio began serving customers with a selection of coffee drinks and a menu featuring Mexican street-style corn and the award-winning Big Red barbacoa taco. Alongside, Chef Jaime Gonzalez’s Wok Wey food truck also debuted, presenting a menu steeped in Cantonese cooking traditions.

Anticipation is building for Tiger Lilly, a lavish social club set to launch on December 13 at 400 Colorado St., expected to host a lavish grand opening party. Additionally, Loro is preparing to open its second Austin location at The Domain, promising its well-loved Asian smokehouse dishes.

Other noteworthy openings include Old Gregg Brewing Co. in Pflugerville, which combines a modern design with outdoor settings, offering a range of beers, cocktails, and food trucks. Another restaurant, Teddy’s, located at 1601 W. 38th St., features Southwest dishes infused with unique twists, while The Day Maker Half Day Cafe offers breakfast and brunch favorites, including tasty egg-topped sandwiches and sweet cinnamon rolls. Lastly, Stargazer, situated at 979 Springdale Rd., presents a versatile venue featuring coffee, cocktails, play structures for children, and diverse food options.

In parallel to the culinary developments, the East Austin Creative Coalition (EACC) has launched the “Keeping It Live on the East Side” campaign in response to the closure of the Skylark Lounge, a historic blues club. The closure occurred after owner Johnny LaTouf faced personal challenges following the death of his brother, significantly impacting local musicians who relied on regular performances at the venue.

The EACC initiative specifically aims to support artists affected by this closure. The campaign will kick off with performances held at Kenny Dorham’s Backyard coinciding with the upcoming Juneteenth Culture Fest running from June 16-21. This effort underscores the ongoing commitment to preserving Austin’s vibrant music scene despite challenges faced by local artists.
