Community Support in Central Texas

News Summary

Central Texas has recently faced devastating flooding, putting local businesses at risk. LiftFund has mobilized over $1 million in emergency funding to help affected businesses recover. This initiative, supported by organizations like Wells Fargo and H-E-B, includes emergency grants and zero-interest loans. LiftFund’s programs aim to assist both directly impacted business owners and those indirectly affected by the disaster, emphasizing community resilience and comprehensive recovery solutions. Residents can apply for funding through LiftFund’s accessible application process.

Texas – LiftFund has announced the mobilization of over $1 million in emergency funding for small businesses affected by the devastating flooding in Central Texas. This initiative is specifically aimed at businesses in the Hill Country region, which has suffered significant damage and operational disruptions due to the recent disaster. The critical funding will support two major recovery efforts under LiftFund’s Hill Country Disaster Recovery Initiative.

The emergency funding has come from notable contributions by Wells Fargo, Methodist Healthcare Ministries, and H-E-B. With this support, LiftFund plans to implement programs that offer critical financial assistance, including emergency grants of up to $10,000 and zero-interest loans designed to help stabilize and restore business operations in the flood-affected areas.

Amy Hereford, president and CEO of LiftFund, emphasized the importance of recovering these businesses, stating that their survival is essential for keeping families in their homes and restoring a sense of community strength. This funding comes in the wake of severe flash floods in Central Texas that have tragically resulted in at least 81 confirmed deaths, including 28 children from Kerr County.

The financial assistance programs initiated by LiftFund include the Hill Country Emergency Grant Program and the Hill Country Disaster Relief Loan Program. The Emergency Grant Program is designed to provide immediate financial relief to small business owners and employees directly impacted by the floods. It also extends assistance to individuals who have been indirectly affected, such as those who experienced significant property damage or loss of loved ones.

The Hill Country Disaster Relief Loan Program offers zero-interest loans to affected businesses with flexible repayment terms. These funds can be utilized for various business-related needs including replacing inventory, covering expenses stemming from temporary closures, funding cleanup operations, or ensuring essential business functions continue. Business owners interested in applying for any of these funding opportunities can do so by visiting liftfund.com/hill-country-relief or by calling 888-215-2372.

In addition to LiftFund’s initiatives, the Small Business Administration (SBA) is also providing low-interest loans for affected businesses, nonprofits, homeowners, and renters in the flood-impacted areas. It’s important for applicants to distinguish between different forms of assistance, as FEMA assistance cannot duplicate benefits provided by insurance policies.

The flooding disaster has prompted Texas Governor Greg Abbott to warn residents about ongoing flood risks due to potential additional rainfall. In response to the disaster, President Trump has signed a Major Disaster Declaration for Kerr County, which will streamline disaster relief efforts and broaden access to various forms of support for individuals and businesses affected by the flooding.

Individuals with flood insurance are strongly encouraged to file claims within 60 days of the flooding event. If there are issues with reaching insurers, the Texas Department of Insurance offers assistance through their hotline at 1-800-252-3439. Additionally, FEMA has set up a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at First Baptist Church in Kerrville, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Thursday, providing support to those looking for assistance.

It’s crucial for both homeowners and renters affected by the flooding to apply for ‘Individual Assistance’ under major disaster declaration DR-4879-TX. Eligible assistance may include temporary housing solutions, home repairs, and help with property losses. Residents are advised to keep receipts for cleanup and repair-related purchases, which may be required for applying for assistance.

The flooding in Central Texas has wrought extensive damage and upheaval, and the community is coming together to provide critical support and resources for recovery. With the resources made available through LiftFund and other organizations, the path to rebuilding is made a little clearer for many small businesses and families affected by this tragic event.
