He married Marilyn Kay Peterson, and together they celebrated 66 years of marriage, raising two sons, John Jr. and Steven.
Shideler began his career with the Santa Fe Railroad and later joined the Rock Island Railroad, which led him to various cities including Topeka, Chicago, Denver, Houston, and Irving. They eventually settled in Spring Branch, a suburb of Houston, focused on educating their children. He transitioned into entrepreneurship, involving himself in transportation, personnel services, and boating before finding his passion in irrigation, earning the nickname “John the Sprinkler Man” on Lake Livingston.
In Georgetown’s active Sun City community, Shideler co-founded N50 (Neighborhood 50) and played many roles, including serving as the NRO Representative, leading the Water Matters committee, and participating in the modifications committee. She attended Ursuline Academy in Laredo and earned a BS in Medical Technology from Texas State University. A visitation is scheduled for September 29, 2025, followed by a funeral mass on September 30, 2025.
