This vibrant community event aims to unite families and friends in honoring the nation’s independence.

Georgetown to Celebrate Independence Day with Annual Sertoma Club Event and Fireworks Show

Georgetown will come alive with celebrations this July 4th as the city gears up for the annual Sertoma Club Family July 4 Celebration. The festivities will kick off at 10 a.m. in San Gabriel Park, featuring a day of family-friendly activities, food, and entertainment, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display beginning at 9:30 p.m.

City Services and Celebrations

In observance of Independence Day, all Georgetown city offices will be closed on July 4. However, normal solid waste and recycling collection will still take place as scheduled. Residents are reminded that there will be no GoGeo paratransit bus services, but options for affordable rideshare services, including vouchers for Uber rides and wheelchair-accessible vehicles through rideGTX, will be available.

Fun-Filled Activities at San Gabriel Park

The Sertoma Club celebration promises a full day of enjoyment with craft vendors, a car show, a children’s area, and various food vendors. Admission to the event is free, making it accessible for all families looking to celebrate our nation’s independence together. In addition to these attractions, the day will feature live entertainment, a petting zoo, and children’s games and rides, ensuring a fun-filled experience for people of all ages.

Independence Day Parade

As part of the festivities, Georgetown will host the Hometown Parade at 11 a.m.. The parade route will begin at the low water crossing near the College Street bridge and conclude at the large pavilion in San Gabriel Park. Community members are encouraged to join the fun and cheer for participants as the parade makes its way through the city.

Fireworks and Safety Regulations

As night falls, excitement will build for the fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.. However, the city has strict regulations regarding personal fireworks. It is important to note that personal fireworks are prohibited within Georgetown city limits and within 5,000 feet of the city boundaries unless authorized by the Georgetown Fire Department. Those caught violating this ordinance could face fines of up to $2,000 per firework. Residents are strongly advised to keep their pets indoors during the fireworks to minimize stress, especially for veterans and animals who may be sensitive to loud sounds.

Parking and Accessibility

Parking at San Gabriel Park is expected to be limited due to the high volume of attendees. To facilitate parking, residents are encouraged to utilize Georgetown High School for parking and consider carpooling whenever possible. Limited handicapped parking will be available in a designated area within the park. Additionally, North College Street will be closed from 8 to 11 p.m. on July 4, specifically between the traffic circle and Holly Street, to ensure safety during the fireworks display.

Plan Ahead for July 4th

As the city prepares for a day of delight in celebration of Independence Day, community members are advised to plan ahead. To ease entry into San Gabriel Park, attendees should take Morrow Street off North Austin Avenue. A map detailing the 5,000-foot boundary for the fireworks ban will be shared with residents to ensure understanding and compliance with safety regulations.

With vibrant celebrations planned for this Independence Day, the city of Georgetown is set to provide residents and visitors with a memorable day filled with excitement, joy, and community spirit. Mark your calendars and get ready for a fantastic 4th of July!
