Georgetown – The Georgetown Sertoma Club is gearing up for its 42nd annual Family July 4 Celebration at San Gabriel Park on Friday, July 4. The event, which is sponsored by the Sertoma Club with support from the City of Georgetown, will feature a full day of activities starting at 10 a.m. and culminating in a fireworks display at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Admission to the celebration is free, though some children’s activities will have associated fees. This year, attendees can look forward to a variety of new experiences including games, a petting farm, and train rides, all available at an affordable price through the sale of wristbands. The festival will also showcase an expanded lineup of food and craft vendors, offering plenty of options for attendees to enjoy.

The celebration will kick off with a hometown parade at 11 a.m., which begins at the low water crossing near the College Street bridge and concludes at the large pavilion in San Gabriel Park. Participants interested in joining the parade should assemble by 10:30 a.m. Children are encouraged to get creative by decorating their wagons or bicycles for the event. The parade is sponsored by Georgetown Free Bikes and Vera Bank, adding community spirit to the festivities.

As the day winds down, the highly anticipated fireworks display will be viewable from various locations within Georgetown, including San Gabriel Park and VFW Park. Attendees planning to witness the fireworks are advised that the best entrance to San Gabriel Park is via Morrow Street off North Austin Avenue. To ensure safety and compliance, attendees are strongly discouraged from bringing dogs to the fireworks show.

San Gabriel Park has limited parking available, and attendees are encouraged to park at Georgetown High School for convenience. For those requiring special accommodations, a designated handicapped parking area will be available in San Gabriel Park. Due to safety concerns regarding the fireworks fall zone, College Street, as well as parking lots at McMaster Athletic Fields and the Parks and Recreation Administration, will be closed on the 4th of July.

Additionally, North College Street will experience closures from approximately 8 to 11 p.m. on July 4. During this time, there will be no parking, standing, or sitting allowed along this roadway to facilitate smooth traffic flow and public safety. The City ordinance prohibits personal fireworks within city limits or within 5,000 feet of the city limits, and violations can result in fines of up to $2,000 per firework.

As a final note, residents are reminded to keep their dogs secure at home during the holiday weekend to prevent them from escaping or causing disturbances during the festivities. With the range of activities planned, the 42nd annual July 4 Celebration promises to be an enjoyable day for families and community members alike.
