On May 26, the community is invited to attend the annual Memorial Day Ceremony, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Georgetown-Williamson County Veterans Memorial Plaza located in Sun City. This meaningful event serves to honor the courageous men and women of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.
This year’s ceremony will feature retired U.S. Army Major Jay Lardizabal as the guest speaker. Major Lardizabal will reflect on the significance of the day and the sacrifices made by veterans throughout history. Georgetown native and retired Army National Guard Lt. Col. Ken Jones will deliver the keynote address titled “Hometown Heroes.” Lt. Col. Jones is expected to share insights into his family’s military legacy, which includes relatives who served during significant conflicts such as World War II and Vietnam.
Memorial wreaths will be placed by various veterans groups and service organizations during the ceremony, symbolizing respect and remembrance for those who have given their lives in service. The event is co-sponsored by the Georgetown Kiwanis Club and the Korean War Veterans Association, showcasing a strong community spirit dedicated to honoring the brave individuals who served in the armed forces.
As Georgetown prepares to observe Memorial Day, residents are encouraged to participate in the community events and take note of service schedule changes. The holiday not only marks a time for reflection and gratitude towards fallen heroes but also offers recreational opportunities for families as city facilities reopen for summer activities.
Residents are urged to make the most of the holiday weekend while honoring those who served, recognizing the importance of coming together as a community.
