At the young age of 17, Hazel married Charles “Gene” Davis on December 30, 1943. Their marriage lasted for an impressive 64 years until Gene passed away on May 10, 2008. This union was characterized by deep love and mutual support, providing a solid foundation for their family.
Hazel graduated from Ava High School in 1944 and shortly thereafter pursued her passion for beauty, attending Beauty School. She went on to have a successful career as a beauty operator for 27 years before transitioning to the successful operation of her own fabric store, Gene’s Fabric Shop, for 8 years.
Hazel was a devoted mother, leaving behind two children: a daughter, Connie Carver, who is married to Chris Carver and resides in Monett, Missouri; and a son, Lyle Wayne Davis, who tragically passed away on April 9, 2003, at the age of 50 due to a motorcycle accident after being in a coma for 25 years. Hazel’s dedication to caring for Lyle during his comatose years exemplifies her loving nature.
After spending most of her life in Ava, Hazel moved to Nixa for 20 years to meet Gene’s medical needs. The couple embraced their family values, having two delightful granddaughters: Dr. Christy Leilani Madalon, who is married to Mike Madalon and resides in St. Louis, Missouri; and Carissa Kealani Kell, married to Ryan Kell, residing in Georgetown, Texas. Hazel was also a proud great-grandmother to Josephine Madalon, who lives in St. Louis, Missouri.
Throughout her life, Hazel was a committed member of the Ava Highway Church of the Nazarene and continued her religious devotion at the Nixa Church of the Nazarene for 20 years. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother who prioritized family above all.
