Bond’s legacy lives on through his three daughters, numerous grandchildren, and the impact he left on students and colleagues alike, marking a life of resilience and warmth.

Georgetown, Texas – Edward Quinton Bond, a respected educator and devoted family man, died on June 21, 2025, at the age of 91. His passing marks the end of a lifetime dedicated to both his profession and his family, leaving behind a legacy of love and commitment.

Born on April 2, 1934, in Los Angeles, California, Bond faced significant challenges from a young age. After the death of his father, James F. Bond, in 1938, his family relocated to El Monte, California. In 1943, due to the illness of his mother, Vera E. (Ayer) Bond, Edward and his brothers were placed in the McKinley Home for Boys, while his sisters entered foster care.

Despite these early hardships, the Bond family reunited in 1946 at their grandmother’s home in Calais, Maine, following the loss of Edward’s half-brother, a paratrooper who died during World War II. Edward’s resilience was evident as he actively participated in the Boy Scouts, which helped to shape his character.

Edward served three years in the Maine National Guard before graduating with honors from Calais Memorial High School. He continued his service in the Army for an additional three years, including a year stationed in Korea. Upon his return, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering while working as a TV home service technician.

In 1960, Bond married Ronna Lee Ericson from Georgetown, Texas. Their marriage lasted nearly 65 years, during which they raised three daughters: Tamera MacKenzie, Vanessa Vonderau, and Lauren Sinclair. Edward was not only a loving husband but also a devoted father and grandfather, enjoying many family activities, including visits to national parks, ski trips, and swimming. He took pleasure in playing tennis weekly and was actively involved in his church community.

Professionally, Edward had a significant impact in the field of aerospace engineering. He began his career at Chance Vought Aircraft in Dallas, Texas, before moving to Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, California. His work contributed greatly to various significant projects, including the L-1011 commercial transport and the F-117A stealth fighter. He capped his career by retiring from Lockheed Martin Skunk Works as an Aerodynamics Research Scientist in April 1999.

Edward Bond is survived by his wife Ronna, their three daughters, and 12 grandchildren, in addition to 6 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Robert Bond, and sister, Shirley Groves, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, half-brother, and several siblings.

The funeral services for Edward Quinton Bond will take place on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. The community remembers him not only as an accomplished scientist but also as a cherished family man whose warm spirit and dedication will be deeply missed.
