Lake Travis, Texas, is set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic film ‘Jaws’ with the ‘Jaws On The Water’ series, featuring outdoor screenings at Volente Beach Resort. Four Saturdays of movie nights will occur, allowing attendees to float on inner tubes while enjoying the film amidst simulated shark bites from scuba divers. The event runs alongside other shark-themed film presentations and promotional activities, promising an immersive experience for fans.
Lake Travis, Texas – The Alamo Drafthouse is diving into summer festivities with a splash, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic film “Jaws”. This celebration will take place under the stars with the “Jaws On The Water” series featuring outdoor screenings at the Volente Beach Resort and Waterpark, located approximately an hour outside of Austin.
The outdoor screenings are set for four select Saturdays: June 7, June 21, July 12, and July 26. Tickets for this unique experience start at $41.95 for those who bring their own inner tube, but those wishing to float along while watching the film are advised to act fast—tickets are selling quickly.
During the screenings, attendees will have the thrilling opportunity to watch the movie projected on Alamo Drafthouse’s Rolling Roadshow movie screen, allowing for a truly mobile experience. Guests will float in specially designed inner tubes while watching this beloved classic in a 60-foot-deep lake under the starry night sky.
In an added twist to the viewing experience, scuba divers will create simulated shark bites from below, enhancing the excitement with each suspenseful moment. An “epic finale” has also been planned to coincide with one of the movie’s most memorable explosive scenes, ensuring a night to remember for all viewers.
The excitement doesn’t stop with “Jaws.” Also located at Lake Travis, the Australian horror film “Dangerous Animals,” which features shark-themed elements, will premiere on May 31, 2023. This film had its initial showing at Cannes, adding to the allure of the summer horror film lineup.
As part of the anniversary festivities, the Great Bites film series will take place from July 1 to July 30, showcasing a variety of animal attack-themed films within regular Alamo Drafthouse theaters. Notable films in the series will include hits like “Piranha” (1978), “The Shallows” (2016), “Alligator” (1980), “Deep Blue Sea” (1999), and “Grizzly” (1976).
Further adding to the festivities, the Texas Lottery will launch Jaws-themed scratch tickets starting on June 2, with prizes reaching up to $100,000, offering fans another way to get involved in the celebration. Alamo Drafthouse is also gearing up for various movie-related parties and themes in May, including special events for Mother’s Day featuring exclusive merchandise and gift card discounts.
The celebration of “Jaws” coincides with a major exhibition hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Museum, which will showcase the film from September 14 through July 26 of the following year.
