An additional funding request of about $600,000 is under consideration, although negotiations regarding the exact amount are still in progress. Mayor Victor Gonzales expressed apprehensions concerning the training and equipment quality of paramedics working with Allegiance. In addition, Council Member Ceasar Ruiz discussed complaints he has received about Allegiance’s services, mentioning a specific incident in which a Pflugerville resident lost their life under potentially improper treatment circumstances.

The council voted on the EMS funding discussion, passing the measure with a 5-2 vote. Council members David Rogers and Melody Ryan opposed the motion. Both the council’s recent actions and the city’s historical challenges with ambulance services have prompted the exploration of alternatives, including past contracts with Acadian Ambulance Services and Allegiance.

This week’s incidents also follow a separate fire on Monday afternoon at an apartment complex located on Falcon Village Lane. The fire, which was reported around 2:19 p.m., led to the evacuation of some residents as smoke began to fill the area. The preliminary investigation indicated that the fire originated from a malfunctioning dryer. Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a working smoke alarm and effective response from fire crews prevented more extensive damage and ensured resident safety.
