Pflugerville Declared Texas’ Trail Capital for a Decade

Pflugerville, Texas, has officially been designated as the Trail Capital of Texas for the next ten years, a recognition that will last until 2035. This significant honor was formalized by Governor Greg Abbott through a signed law that highlights the city’s commitment to outdoor recreation and healthy living.

A Resolution to Recognize Pflugerville

The new title comes after a resolution, known as SCR 4, was introduced by State Senator Sarah Eckhardt and State Representative Sheryl Cole. Their efforts to recognize Pflugerville as a leading location for trails in Texas have resulted in this commendable achievement, which the local government is eager to celebrate.

A Trail Network for Everyone

Pflugerville boasts an impressive network of over 71 miles of accessible pathways for residents and visitors to enjoy. Within the city limits alone, there are 60 miles of public trails, complemented by an additional 15.2 miles in its extraterritorial jurisdiction. This expansive trail system showcases Pflugerville as having the highest number of public trails per capita in Texas, approximately 1.49 miles of trails for every 2,000 residents.

Trail Accessibility and Community Engagement

An astounding 94.8% of Pflugerville residents live within a half-mile of a trail, ensuring easy access to the city’s outdoor facilities. Notably, over 90% of the population is within a mere 10-minute walk to a trailhead, effectively promoting an active lifestyle among residents. A 2025 Community Satisfaction Survey revealed that a notable 78% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the parks and trails offered in Pflugerville. In addition, nearly 40% of the survey participants reported visiting the trail system at least once a week.

Trails Foster Community Connection

The city’s Parks & Recreation Director emphasized the vital role that trails play in not just recreational activities but also in fostering community interaction. They serve as essential pathways for both pedestrians and cyclists, helping to connect neighborhoods and enhance the overall quality of life. The growing popularity of these trails is indicative of a community that values health, wellness, and outdoor activity.

Celebration of the Trail Capital Designation

In light of this prestigious designation, Pflugerville is set to celebrate with special events, including the release of commemorative T-shirts. These shirts will be available at the Pflugerville Recreation Center located at 400 Immanuel Road, Pflugerville, TX, 78660. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to the city’s Parks and Recreation Department social media accounts for more information regarding this special promotional item.
