Margaret was born on February 12, 1930, in Lake City, Minnesota, to Grant and Louise (DeFrang) Norton. She spent her formative years in Lake City before graduating from Red Wing Central High School in 1947.

Marriage and Family

On October 31, 1950, she married Arlan Banks. The couple initially settled in Red Wing before moving to Vasa for a decade, during which Margaret became an active member of Vasa Lutheran Church. After those ten years, they returned to Red Wing, where Margaret would continue her service with First Lutheran Church.

Community Involvement

In addition to her commitments to church, where she volunteered by working on the church newsletter and organizing food for funerals, Margaret had a fulfilling career at the Red Wing Pottery Sales Office until her retirement. Her dedication to serving others in both her professional and personal life was a defining characteristic of her legacy.

Margaret found joy in playing cards and dining out with friends such as Janet and Betty, allowing her to build meaningful relationships. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Matthew (Jordan) Dowell, Karli Jackson, and others, as well as her sister-in-law Mary Ann Banks and several nieces and nephews.

Margarent was preceded in death by her husband, Arlan; her son-in-law, Dan Rollie; twin infant great-grandchildren, Mason and Jason; her parents; sister Roxanne Matz; and brothers Donald Norton and Arnold DeFrang.

Memorial Service Details

A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, at First Lutheran Church, with Reverend Quinlan Koch officiating. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Lutheran Church. Arrangements are being handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
