On October 31, 1950, she married Arlan Banks. The couple initially settled in Red Wing before moving to Vasa for a decade, during which Margaret became an active member of Vasa Lutheran Church. After those ten years, they returned to Red Wing, where Margaret would continue her service with First Lutheran Church.

In addition to her commitments to church, where she volunteered by working on the church newsletter and organizing food for funerals, Margaret had a fulfilling career at the Red Wing Pottery Sales Office until her retirement.
