Rocksssanne the Beloved Library Python Retires After 25 Years at Round Rock Public Library

Round Rock, TX – The Round Rock Public Library is set to bid farewell to Rocksssanne, its cherished ball python, who is retiring after nearly 25 years of loyal service. This event is not just a simple retirement; it marks the end of an era for library patrons and staff who have grown fond of the beloved reptile over the years.

Rocksssanne was adopted in January 2000 and was estimated to be around three years old at the time. Known affectionately as “Miss Rocksssanne NoFeet,” her name emerged from a naming contest held among the children of Round Rock, showcasing the community’s fondness for this unique ambassador of the library.

This year, Rocksssanne will turn 28 years old in January, well beyond the expected lifespan of ball pythons, which is generally around 20 years as pets. Her longevity speaks volumes about the care she has received from library staff and the love she has received from countless visitors during her tenure.

Throughout her years at the library, Rocksssanne has featured prominently in children’s storytime events and made visits to local schools, where she delighted children and showcased the wonders of nature. Her presence has sparked curiosity and fostered a love for reading and learning among young visitors, making her a vital part of the library’s community programs.

As Rocksssanne prepares for her retirement, the library plans to hold several weeks of celebrations leading up to her official retirement date on March 1. Patrons will have the opportunity to submit memories and photos of Rocksssanne, creating a collective tribute that highlights her impact over the years.

After her retirement, Rocksssanne will move to a quiet area of the library, where she will remain under the care of the staff, away from public activities. Those who wish to see her will no longer have the opportunity as the library transitions her viewing window to feature a new educational exhibit scheduled for spring. This exhibit will center on fish native to Brushy Creek and is part of a collaboration with The Aquarium Company, Living Waters Fly Fishing, and Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Upcoming Local Author Meet and Greet Event

Local Author Meet and Greet event scheduled for June 21. This event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will take place across both floors of the library. It is an excellent opportunity for community members to meet local authors from diverse backgrounds.

Among the participating authors are Julie Afsahi and Jessica Cross, who focus on wellness themes, along with Douglas A. Burton, the author of “The Heroine’s Labyrinth.” Other notable contributors include Michael Do, who has published over 20 books in Vietnamese and three in English, and Kevin Kelton, an Emmy-nominated writer known for his work on “Saturday Night Live” and “Night Court.”

Authors such as Dani Lawrence, inspired by her grandchildren’s adventures, and Tia Lulu, who incorporates bilingual elements into her storytelling, will also be present. Additionally, the Rhyme Time Teller aims to engage children with captivating tales, while Maureen St. Louis brings her experience as an early childhood educator into her family-oriented books.

As part of the event, 10% of all book sales will be donated to the Friends of the Round Rock Library, supporting ongoing community programs. The library encourages everyone to join in the celebration of both Rocksssanne’s legacy and the vibrant local literary scene.
