Round Rock’s Infrastructure Developments Advance

Round Rock, Texas is making progress with critical infrastructure developments, including the construction of Fire Station 10 and the expansion of the Round Rock Sports Center. Both projects are expected to enhance public safety and boost recreational activities in the area.

Fire Station 10 Construction Underway

Construction is currently underway for the Fire Station 10, located at 4380 E. Old Settlers Blvd. The estimated cost for this facility is $9.1 million, with an expected completion date set for 2026. Designed to serve the northeastern area of Round Rock, the station’s strategic location will foster quicker emergency response times for the surrounding communities.

The Fire Station will be situated northeast of Old Settlers Park and near several residential subdivisions, ensuring that local residents have efficient access to fire and emergency services. The city has opted to utilize a standardized prototype fire station design to help minimize costs while still adhering to necessary safety and operational standards.

The contract for construction has been awarded to Braun and Butler Construction, which began its work on the project earlier this year. Updated plans for the fire station have been developed by McKinney York Architects to comply with current building codes, ensuring that the facility meets modern safety and functionality requirements.

Funding for Fire Station 10 was secured through a bond election held in May 2023, where voters approved a total of $44 million for various public safety projects throughout Round Rock.

Round Rock Sports Center Expansion Reaches Milestone

In another significant development, the Round Rock Sports Center is currently undergoing an expansion that recently achieved a critical construction milestone with the installation of tilt walls. The expansion aims to add two additional basketball and volleyball courts, bringing the facility’s total to eight courts. Completion of this project is anticipated by early 2026.

This expansion addresses the growing demand from local teams and clubs for more playtime and aims to accommodate larger regional and national sporting events. In addition to the new courts, the expansion plans include championship court seating, a secondary entrance, and additional parking to facilitate an increase in visitor capacity.

Although construction is ongoing, the Sports Center has remained open, continuing to offer its current facilities to users. The center presently provides 276 hours of playtime weekly but has seen increased requests for up to 340 hours.

The expansion of the Sports Center is part of a comprehensive $274 million bond package approved by voters in May 2023. This bond includes funding for other notable sporting facilities, such as the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex, which is expected to feature five synthetic fields and one natural grass field, along with collegiate-level press boxes, with an estimated completion in 2027.

Enhanced Recreational Opportunities on the Horizon

As construction progresses on both Fire Station 10 and the Sports Center expansion, residents can anticipate enhanced recreational and safety offerings in Round Rock. After the Multipurpose Complex’s completion, Old Settlers Park and the Complex will offer a total of 27 fields within a quarter mile. This development will significantly heighten Round Rock’s appeal for hosting large-scale sports events, contributing not only to local recreation but also to community engagement and economic growth.
