As the championship unfolds, all eyes are on players striving for excellence on the scenic New Course at White Bluff Golf Resort.
Lake Whitney, Texas is buzzing with excitement as it hosts the 2025 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships for men’s and women’s golf. This thrilling three-day event, taking place at the scenic New Course at White Bluff Golf Resort, is drawing attention from college golf fans across the region.
The University of St. Thomas is proudly serving as the host school for this prestigious championship, bringing together top talent from various schools. Competing teams include Centenary College, Southwestern University, Concordia University, University of Dallas, McMurry University, Schreiner University, Texas Lutheran University, and Trinity University. The format for the championship is straightforward but intense, with each team playing a total of 54 holes over three days, with one round a day.
Golf enthusiasts can mark their calendars, as the excitement kicks off this Sunday, with the women’s groupings teeing off at 8:25 a.m., followed closely by the men’s group at 8:30 a.m.. The men will tackle a par-72, 7,014-yard course, while the women will navigate a par-72, 5,373-yard course. The atmosphere is set to be electric as players vie for top honors and a chance to claim a championship.
One standout player already making headlines is Centenary senior Andrew Bennett, who has successfully defended his title as the Men’s Individual Champion. With an impressive three-round total of 212 (71, 71, 70), Bennett’s performance has earned him accolades as the SCAC Men’s Golfer of the Year and a spot on the First-Team All-SCAC. His teammates, including Aubrey Snell, have also been shining stars. Snell, a sophomore, was honored as the SCAC Freshman of the Year last season and has continued to show great potential on the course.
The Centenary men’s team has been making strides in their recent competitions, finishing fifth in the West Region Invitational hosted by Southwestern earlier this month. Their lineup features notable players like Bennett, Snell, and others, including Jeffrey Borchert, Ryder Briggs, and Colton Mayer. As they compete in the SCAC Championships, they are surely looking to improve upon last year’s finish (fourth place) and showcase their skills.
On the women’s side, the Centenary women’s team demonstrated resilience, shooting a 71-over par during the second round and moving up to seventh place in the tournament standings. Led by freshman Haylee Crowder, the team features impressive golfers such as Amber Shaw, Mya Thompson, and Jordyn Templeton. With a remarkable improvement of 45 strokes from the first to the second round, they’re certainly making a strong push as they head into the final day of play.
Looking ahead, tee times for the final round on Tuesday have been set. Templeton will lead off at 8:25 a.m., followed by Crowder at 8:49 a.m.. The women face tough competition, notably from Trinity University, which currently leads the ladies’ division by a staggering 40 strokes. With the women’s individual leader being Lauren Huddleston from Trinity after the second round, it will be interesting to see how the final round unfolds.
As the tournament carries on, every swing and every putt counts in this high-stakes competition. The camaraderie among teams, the intense pressure of the championship, and the beautiful Lake Whitney backdrop create a remarkable setting for college golf. Best of luck to all the players—may the best teams and individuals rise to the occasion!
