Southwestern University Baseball Team showcasing determination during their season opener.
The Southwestern University Baseball Team faced a challenging season opener against the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes. Despite high hopes, the Coyotes endured a tough doubleheader loss. They now look to bounce back in upcoming games as they aim for redemption and continued growth through the season.
In the bustling city of Georgetown, excitement filled the air as the Southwestern University Baseball Team kicked off their season with high hopes and fierce determination. However, the opening games proved to be a tough test against a formidable opponent, the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes, who were bringing their A-game after finishing last season with an impressive record.
As the 2025 season began, the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes were no strangers to success. Ranked No. 12 in the NAIA Baseball Preseason Top 25, they had wrapped up the previous season with a stunning 48-12 record, one of the best in the school’s history! The team not only celebrated their overall achievements but also made waves in the conference with an outstanding 32-4 performance in the KCAC. With Bill Neale leading the charge as head coach, the Coyotes were ready to uphold their legacy. Neale, in his 11th season, has become the all-time leading coach for the program, racking up a total of 311 wins!
Things were heating up as the Coyotes faced off against LSUA for their season opener. Unfortunately for Kansas Wesleyan, it was a rocky start, as they lost both games in a tight doubleheader. The first game was an edge-of-your-seat affair, with Kansas Wesleyan narrowly falling to LSUA with a score of 2-1. The Coyotes had held their ground until the sixth inning when LSUA made a critical move that shifted the momentum.
Game two saw even more excitement as the Coyotes scraped their way back and put on an intense performance. However, despite their valiant efforts, they just couldn’t secure the win after a rough seventh inning where LSUA scored an astounding eight runs, clinching the game with an exhilarating walk-off win at 11-10.
As they regroup from this challenging opening, the Coyotes have their eyes locked on the upcoming doubleheaders against Louisiana Christian on January 24 and LSU-Alexandria on January 25. It’s a chance for redemption, and the team is eager to bounce back and showcase their resilience.
While the results were not what they had hoped for, individual performances shone brightly amidst the challenges. Recently, Nathan Righi distinguished himself by achieving a win after pitching 5 innings and striking out 7 batters in an earlier game against Evangel. Such standout performances are definitely reasons for optimism moving forward.
The Coyotes’ first home game of the season is just around the corner, scheduled for February 21 against Southwestern University at 2:00 PM. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team as they navigate through the early season battles and strive for victory.
With a mixture of determination and talent, the Southwestern University Baseball Team is ready to roll up their sleeves and tackle the challenges ahead. After all, every season has its ups and downs, but with continued support from fans and a fighting spirit, brighter days are surely on the horizon!
