Born on November 9, 1933, in Beaumont, Texas, Velma was the daughter of the late Ira Leonard O’Dell and Minnie Jewell Thornton O’Dell. She spent her formative years in the Maxdale community before her family relocated to Bartlett, Texas. Velma graduated from Bartlett High School, where she participated in half-court women’s basketball, displaying her competitive spirit from a young age.

Career and Interests

Velma’s professional journey lasted over 30 years as she worked for Tracor/Baker Hughes Company in Austin, Texas. She ultimately retired as the Executive Administrative Assistant to the Area President, signifying her dedication and hard work.

Known for her vibrant personality, she maintained a friendly demeanor, often greeting others with a smile and a cheerful “Hi Babe.” Velma also had a passion for sports, proudly supporting the UT girls basketball team and being a longstanding supporter of the UT Longhorn Foundation. Her love for country western dancing was also well-known, where she was regarded as a wonderful dancer.

Family Life

Velma was a devoted single mother who raised four children while attending numerous sports events. She is survived by her children: Rickey Lee Lindeman and wife Anne Marie of Georgetown, Susan Juanelle Kemp and husband Richard of Georgetown, Leonard Gus Lindeman and wife JoAnne of Lubbock, and Carol Elaine Lindeman Aragon of Austin. Velma was also a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Blake Lindeman and wife Megan, Blaine Lindeman and wife Sara, Susan Aragon, Tiffani Wampler and husband Travis, Jennifer Mimms and husband Allen, Dennis Lindeman, and Rush Kemp. In addition, she was a great-grandmother to 13 great-grandchildren and had one great-great-grandchild.

Legacy and Remembrance

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Evenson, her sister LaNell Rincon, and her nephew Johnny Dahl. She is also survived by her cherished sister, Juanice Dahl, and husband Wes, along with countless nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who remember her fondly.
